Bit of history here will be good, I promise I will keep it short.
Shah Jahan, the king of the Mughal Empire was very much in love with the queen who he called Mumtaz. She is said to be so beautiful that even the moon will hide its face in shame. This love is what made the king come up with this marvel. It took more than decades to complete.
Thousands of workers worked hard to get this build with all marble for this queen. There are also saying that the chief of construction had to lose his thumb because the king does not want him to make another beauty like Taj Mahal.
